D3.7 NREN Satisfaction Survey

This deliverable presents the results and analysis of the ninth NREN Satisfaction Survey carried out in March and April 2022, covering the GÉANT organisation, the GÉANT (GN4-3/GN4-3N) project, the GÉANT network and network operation, the GÉANT service portfolio, and GÉANT collaboration and community activities. The survey objectives were to assess satisfaction with GÉANT’s activities; assess the importance of and satisfaction with specific aspects, products and services; help GÉANT to better understand the community’s needs; and determine how and where to focus future efforts.

It presents three research and education SOC case studies, including utilisation of the SOCTools package developed by GN4-3 WP8 Task 3.1 Security Operations Centre.
D6.9 Network Services Evolution and Development

This document describes the results of the Network Services Evolution and Development Task. The implementation of Orchestration, Automation and Virtualisation (OAV) helps NRENs build agile network management systems to meet the growing user demands for flexible service delivery. To support the NRENs in this endeavour, the Network Services Evolution and Development task (Task 2) of the Network Technologies and Services Development Work Package (WP6) of the GÉANT project is focused on developing interoperable OAV solutions and enabling knowledge exchange. The Service Provider Architecture Platform (SPA) is a leading example of the usage and advantages of OAV, and the Network Automation eAcademy has been created to improve NREN's OAV knowledge and skills.

The GÉANT Compendium provides an authoritative reference source for anyone with an interest in the development of research and education networking in Europe and beyond. Published since 2001, the Compendium provides information on key areas such as NREN budget and staffing; end users; involvement in EC-funded projects; network, traffic and capacity; and services. This report primarily covers the period January to December 2020. The GÉANT NREN Compendium may be found online at: compendium.geant.org.

The Monitoring and Management Task (Task 3) of the Network Technologies and Services Development Work Package (WP6) in the GN4-3 project takes care of several network monitoring and management services in production, including the newly launched WiFiMon service, and has continued the relevant developments from the GN4-2 project. This document presents the network management and monitoring service portfolio after three years of the GN4-3 project, as well as an overview of ongoing earlier-lifecycle work and activities that were initiated in this project phase.

This document presents the second generation eduVPN client apps, which were released during Q4 2020. The new design of the client apps simplifies the user experience by hiding complexity. It puts identity discovery first and solves the service discovery issue users were previously confronted with. All apps now also have the same look-and-feel and the same flow.

This deliverable reviews whether new types of white box devices can be used by the research and education community and for which use cases. The ability to program the data plane thanks to a high abstract level language (P4) opens the door to new applications for research and education. Two use cases are presented here: In-band Network Telemetry and Distributed Denial of Service attack mitigation. The Router for Academia, Research and Education project (RARE) investigates also if it is possible to use open source Network Operating System (NOS).
